Daves Tip Jar – Be in the Know!
If you’re reading this, you likely found DavesTipJar because you were searching for info on a product or service or some “How-to” tip to fix a problem.
Like you, I search the web almost daily for information on a product I want to buy, or I’m trying to figure out how to do some home repair or fix an issue with my computer. Why? Because there’s a lot of helpful information online to help you make the right purchase or give you the steps to fix it.
If your search brought you here, I hope we have the information you were looking for!
Who is DavesTipJar?
Well, my name is “Dave” as I’m sure you already guessed. So, here’s a bit about myself.
I have a background in IT services and have spent most of my professional career as a product manager. I’ve traveled the world, met some wonderful people, and visited amazing places.
Also, I’ve been a computer geek since the early days when computers were cool! (Okay, sometimes they still are) Therefore, I share what I know, which means almost anything involving “How-to” tech tips on PC computing. Like I said, the “Inner Nerd” is strong in me! 🙂
So, how did my interest in technology start? Well, I began by working weekends at a local PC repair shop during high school. And by working, I mean hanging out on weekends, just trying to learn everything I could about computers. I didn’t get paid, but what I learned launched me into my technology career path. And, since there was no real internet back then unless you count AOL (i.e., “You Got Mail!”) and boring old Compuserve, hands-on was the way to learn back then.
I eventually started my own computer business when computers were beginning to become commonplace in the home. Your online experiences were the local BBSs (Bulletin Board Services) that you connected to with a screeching dial-up modem. I ran one for several years, and it was the most fun I ever had with my computer back then. I chatted with a ton of other users and made a few real-life friends.
I haven’t forgotten the nostalgia of those old “Dial-up” days when modem speed was everything. If you’ve never heard the sound of one connecting, it’s like nails on a chalkboard. Don’t believe me…have a listen (modem sound).
So, my life lesson was finding my passions, seeking knowledge, and doing what it takes to achieve my dreams, no matter the obstacle! The more challenging it is, the more rewarding success will be!
What Am I Doing Nowadays?
I design and build websites and write web content for several clients. I also do some boring technical writing for a few former employers from my Product Management days. But I’ll be honest and say that drafting technical guides, while necessary for learning, is mind-numbing, yet I learn a lot!
However, my passion for tinkering with the latest technologies would be much more challenging without these essential guides. Although, I’m always up for a challenge and enjoy a good “Escape Room.”
I mostly play around with computer and home automation tech—so much so that my home is like something out of Star Trek! In my home, you never have to touch a light switch or remote controller—just walk into a room or ask the “computer” to do something.
It’s taken me 30 years, but I finally have a home George Jetson would be proud of!
What are my Hobbies?
I’m a workaholic, but in my spare time, I love Sim Racing! My interest started when I was at a trade show event, and one of the exhibitors had a full-sized racing sim in their booth. I tried it and was hooked instantly!
It didn’t take long for me to build a full-sized racing simulator. It’s pure fun, and it lets me drive hundreds of different cars on many different race tracks with other sim racers from all over the world. Moreover, it’s my way to unwind after a long day and chat with some online friends.
What Do We Offer?
At DTJ, we offer our experience. I will always continue learning and spend hours reading online to improve my understanding of my many areas of interest. Like many others, I always search for that next hobby or side hustle to keep life interesting.
As I said, I’ve been a computer geek since the early days. So naturally, I’ll be talking about “How-to” tech tips, mostly in PC computing. Sorry Mac users, my computing interests started long before the “Apple” fell from the tree. However, if I had bought some shares, I would be on a beach somewhere holding a drink with a little umbrella instead of typing this! Hindsight, right?
If your search brought you here, we are glad you found DTJ and hope the information we provide is helpful.
Our Moment of Truth
Now for our ulterior motive. We want to be fully upfront about the content on our website. Therefore, many articles published here may include affiliate links to the items they discuss. For those unfamiliar, an affiliate link is a special link that, when clicked, will take you to the merchant’s website that offers that product or service. Should you make a purchase after clicking one of these special links, I will earn a small commission. While this DOES NOT cost you more, it really helps me continue to write content that I hope you find helpful.
Lastly, I appreciate your support! But, in case you’re not convinced, I’m forced to play the “Cute Puppy” card! 🙂
PS: I was going to go all “Sad Clown” on you, but Stephen King ruined “IT” for all of us! Besides, everyone loves Puppies!
